Damon Hill Karting Challenge 2017
On the hottest summer solstice in history and the hottest June in 20 years Avantus Business Solutions including the Faircare group, People Care HR and Avantus Recruit took part in the Damon Hill Karting Challenge.
Now in its sixth year, this fast-paced charity event at Daytona Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey was a huge must for any karting enthusiasts, petrol heads and charity challengers alike.
We had the amazing opportunity to meet the legend and World Champion Damon Hill OBE, patron and co-founder of the halow project who graciously allowed a group picture with us all (see below).
The halow project is committed to supporting young people with a learning disability to live the life they choose as independently as possible. Today, they support some 170 young people and their families and offer a range of services which aims to help these young people on their journeys through life.
Avantus had 2 teams of five brave drivers taking part in the Le Mans style two-and-a-half-hour endurance race of which over 100 drivers took part including Damon Hill himself spotted in all white (see top picture). Prior to the race each team driver had a briefing and a practice run in which we got to grips with both the kart and the circuit. Some drivers were struggling with the heat at this stage.
Then the race had begun! With the intense heat, we were changing drivers every 10-15 minutes pushing high speeds and nerves of steel around the fast, exhilarating and very challenging circuit.
Two and a half hours of noise, mayhem and a very tasty BBQ! There was also a raffle and an auction with some incredible prizes. The exciting day raised over £20,000 for the halow project!
Damon Hill’s team won (of course) but what a day and what an experience. A very big thank you to our Managing Director Phil Curtis for arranging this and supporting such a worthwhile cause.
